The Goodreads Awards for 2016 are nearing the pointy end of judging and it’s time for the readers to get involved.

Everybody loves a good book, and we’re sure you’ve got something sitting on your bookshelf or bedside table you cannot wait to rave to friends about. Well great news: the Goodreads Choice Awards 2016 is here, and you can put in a vote to help decide the winner! But you have to act now - the final round of voting ends in just a few days on November 27. Check out the Goodreads final nominees here and see if your favorite book made it to the list.

What are the Goodreads Awards

Started in 2009, this fantastic awards program has allowed readers to nominate books and effectively give back to their favourite authors. Books released during 2016 can be considered, but that's not what makes these awards unique. Instead, it's the fact this is the only major book award decided on by readers. It ensures the goodreads awards are especially relevant to an indie publisher like Old Mate Media. which makes it especially relevant. The folks at Goodreads nominate the books by "analyzing the statistics from the millions added, rated, and reviewed." Before the final entries are chosen, the nominated books must go through three rounds of voting. We’re in the final round right now.

Nominated picture and children's books

There's a great list of nominees for the best picture and children's books in 2016. But what are our picks here at Old Mate Media?

There’s Ida, Always by Caron Levis, which tells the tale of two polar bears, Gus and Ida, who are the best of friends. Ida becomes sick and her condition worsens, and Gus must learn how to say goodbye. This is a story that tugs at a child’s heartstrings while they learn a way how to overcome loss. The story was inspired by the real-life polar bears in New York’s Central Park Zoo. You can vote for Ida, Always here:

Mr. Lemoncello's Library Olympics by Chris Grabenstein, a nominee for the children's book category, resonated with book nerds and library lovers.  According to its Goodreads reviews, it's an engaging book full of puzzles the readers will have to solve. Who knew stories about libraries could be so intriguing? Vote for Mr. Lemoncello's Library Olympics here:
