Getting book reviews is one of the most talked about topics in indie self-publishing. So how do you get started?

How do you get those pesky readers and bloggers to review your book? It's a question we all face in the self-publishing scene. We need those star ratings and blog reviews to put in our sales pages and on our back covers. Readers' Favorite provides an easy and no cost solution to at least one of those questions with their free Readers' Favorite book reviews.

What is Readers' Favorite?

Readers’ Favorite is one of the internet’s most respected book review websites. The sites’ writers review new books from authors of many genres and from a host of publishers. This includes Random House, Simon & Schuster, Harper Collins and Old Mate Media.

Readers' Favorite has grown at an incredible pace, now counting over 1,000 authors among its staff, receiving awards from the Association of Independent Authors along the way. Plus the site is fully accredited by the Better Business Bureau (BBB).

How do I get a free Readers' Favorite book review?

The process is quite simple and easy to do. Simply head to the book review page on the Readers' Favorite site and complete all the information for your book. You then provide a digital copy of your book. Let's get more specific:

You’ll need the following information:

  • 10 Digit ISBN (Optional)
  • Author Name
  • Book Title
  • Book Subtitle (Optional)
  • Pages
  • Author Email
  • Agent Email (Optional)
  • Cell Phone (Optional)
  • Book Description
  • Book Cover

You’ll also need to provide a digital copy of your book in any of the following formats:

  • PDF
  • Kindle
  • Microsoft Word
  • LibreOffice (ODT)
  • RTF
  • ePUB

You’ll have the option to upgrade to a fast review, but I’d recommend starting with the free version. If you have any issues creating a digital version of your book, or wish to improve the quality of your book before submitting, you can learn more on our design page.

What do I do with my free Readers' Favorite Review?

Readers' Favorite reviews are not ones that count towards your star rating, but instead they are used as part of your sales page in your book description.

There is a space for them under Editorial Reviews. These are a fantastic resource and we’ve previously put together a short guide on how to use editorial reviews in your Amazon sales page.

If you get a five star review you can also download a sticker (like the one below) and use it to create social posts that promote your book.

We’ve included a couple of example uses in the images at the top of this article. You can also promote the review and with it your book, by writing a news piece on your website. This is something we’ve done for two of our reviews so far in A Very Strange Zoo and My Birthday Cake Needs a New Home.
